The A27 Botley Road in North Baddesley is a busy main road that leads from the Hampshire village onto Bassett Avenue and into Southampton City Centre.

Next week, a series of overnight closures are planned, in order of Hampshire County Council’s highways team to carryout maintenance works and repairs on the road.

Road works are set to begin on July 11 and will last until July 20, between the hours of 7pm and 6am.

The diversion takes motorists through Chilworth and down Bassett Avenue, before coming back up through Shirley on the A3057.

Drivers are taken through Nursling and Rownhams on the A3057 before circling through Ashfield and re-joining the A27.

What may come as a surprise to some drivers is that the diversion that has been set up is just more than 10 miles long.

The stretch of the A27 Botley Road that is subject to these maintenance works is less than one mile in length.

Motorists in North Baddesley are being warned to plan ahead of their journey particularly if travelling early in the morning or in the evening when the diversion route will be in place.
