Teenage boys arrested after shop windows smashed in Hythe

Shop windows and doors, car windows, and homes were damaged on May 26.

The smashing spree occurred in New Road, High Street, The Marsh and Prospect Place. 

Following an investigation by police, two arrests were made.

A 13-year-old boy from Hythe was arrested on suspicion of 14 counts of criminal damage to a property valued under £5,000.

He has been bailed with conditions until Monday, August 26.

Another 13-year-old boy, from Hythe, was arrested on suspicion of 15 counts of criminal damage to property valued under £5,000.

Two officers were assaulted during the arrest.

He was also arrested on suspicion of common assault of an emergency worker, assaulting a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm, committing a breach of the peace and two counts of theft from a shop.

He has been bailed with conditions until Wednesday, August 28.

A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: “The investigation is continuing and as stated previously if you have seen or heard something that you feel is relevant to this investigation please make contact via 101 or the Hampshire Constabulary website.”
